"Heave on the
Eve" (of secretary's day)
April 23, 2007-Ionia Community Library lawn
"PHONES TAKE FLIGHT!"
The title of farthest
throw (or is that heave?) in
the inaugural Heave on the Eve (of Secretarys day) goes to a
Sentinel-Standard staff member. Of the 34
entrants in the WION contest, aired on I-1430 Tuesday afternoon, Lindsay Cope threw her
selected phone a whopping 52 feet, 9 inches across the Ionia Community Library lawn. Second place went to Betty Montague from the RAVE
organization, with a 50 foot phone flight, and third place to Dawn Ketchum, Ionia Area
Chamber of Commerce Director with a distance of 49 feet, 6 inches. The Honorary shortest throw went to
Melissa Thompson, an employee of the Ionia Community Library, who received the unique
FloralPhone designed by Sid's Flowers. First
place prize was a night In the town including a dinner for two at the
Lamplight Grill, and a nights stay in a Jacuzzi suite at Ionias Amerihost Inn
and Suites. The second place prize was a pair
of Cedar Point tickets for 2007, and a gift Certificate from Sid's Flowers, Ionia. The
third place prize was gift certificates to Discount Tire and Battery and Ionia
Officeworks. I-1430 wants to thank the contestants,
and of course, their bosses who let them attend the event.
Big thanks also to Kittys Café for the freshly baked cookies, (none
of which were tossed) Culligan of Ionia for bottled water, The Ionia Theatre for its
famous popcorn, and Mid-State Communications for the long-distance projectiles. No
injuries were reported, except for one contestants broken nail, and a close call
with a phone and a spectators vehicle, as they enjoyed the contest. More pictures and coverage can be seen from the
